Bereavement care is needed in hospitals to ensure that mothers who have lost a newborn and other grieving patients receive the best care possible.
Normally when a mother gives birth, the hospital transfers them from the delivery room to the mother baby unit. Mothers that experience the loss of a newborn are not moved to the mother baby unit, but instead are moved to a different area of the hospital that has availability. Unfortunately, this often results in postpartum mothers experiencing care in areas that are unprepared to care for them. The Lavender Project improves bereavement care for all in need by supporting the creation of bereavement rooms in hospitals with healthcare professionals specifically trained to care for patients experiencing grief after the loss of a child.
